COSRX Blackhead Power Cream- Part II Final Thoughts

So I’ve finally finished my testing period of the COSRX Blackhead Power Cream. If you didn’t read my initial thoughts, take a look here. I wrote about the ingredients and what I felt my initial results had been after two weeks. I really liked the cream at that point, so how do I feel about it after over a months consistent use?

* I received this product directly from COSRX free of charge. This does not affect my review in any way. If you have any queries about this please see my disclaimer or email me.

Packaging:

The packaging is a simple, convenient tube. It’s hygienic, and you can easily disperse as much as you want. It fits in well with the rest of the simple COSRX product family.

My only complaint is that when I traveled with the cream, it got a little squished, and because of the soft metal type material (you know what I mean? The kind ointment is sometimes packaged in) it got a tiny little split where it creased. I don’t think its a major problem, but I was only carrying it on a bus so don’t think it should have split so easily.

Texture and Scent

The texture is a really nice soft cream. It feels great on the skin, and absorbs well. It isn’t too heavy or watery. A few seconds after application, the skin immediately feels softer, not sticky at all.

The scent is slightly tea tree-ish, kind of medicinal. There is no artificial fragrance. I actually adore the scent, I think because it reminds me of my childhood, but I know some are sensitive to it. I can smell it on application but it definitely fades, and it isn’t overpowering IMO.

Results

The most important bit.

I gave a slight rundown of the effects I’d seen after two weeks. I felt that it softened my skin, perhaps slightly evened out my skin tone, moisturised very well, but didn’t unclog my pores as it claimed it would.

After using the product for this long, I will continue to use it, and perhaps rather boringly, I still feel pretty much the same about the results.

It does a great job as a night cream. It deeply moisturises and the softness of my skin when I wake up is nothing short of fabulous. It has also helped smoothen out some slightly pimply skin around my hairline. The softening and smoothing for me are the main reasons I will continue with it. I would go as far as to say I haven’t tried another night cream that has had such great results with these skincare aims of mine.

The only slight disappointment for me was the pore cleansing. I took these before and after pictures of my (disgusting) nose pores, and even though there is a tiny difference, in that my pores are sliiiiightly clearer, it is not significant. I can’t believe I am voluntarily posting these images on the internet, I didn’t think my pores were that bad, but apparently the camera disagrees.

Before starting the cream. I know this is SO gross, and please don’t judge for the state of my pores in this image. I swear they don’t look as bad in real life…this photo has actually caused me to reevaluate some of my skincare…I NEED TO IMPROVE MY ACID GAME.

This is after a month’s use. I think the pores on my nose are ever so slightly cleaner, even if it is not apparent in these images. But I definitely wouldn’t say that the cream cleansed my pores. As you can see by the black pepper dots still there in the photo, haunting me…

I think my theory may be correct- that if I was using an acid daily, this cream would be a great compliment. I currently only do my BHA acid about three times a week, which I already know isn’t enough. I’m really going to try to up my acid game, and continue to use this cream to see how the results are.

Despite the pore disappointment, I am impressed with the cream overall. Whilst it didn’t cleanse my pores, it didn’t clog them, and that is often my biggest worry with a deeply moisturising night cream. I haven’t had any bad reactions, closed comedones or breakouts (as a result of this cream at least), and the soft smooth skin is a winner for me. The price is about 18,000 Korean won I believe, and I think I would repurchase it if only to maintain the improved skin texture. I haven’t fallen head over heels in love like I did with their Snail line, but it’s a product I will continue to use, and I am enjoying the results.

  1. Thank zu for this review! Wanted to get this, but the TT-oil put me off since I suffer from slight rosacea and didn’t wish to aggravate my skin any further.

Since my pores look pretty much the same as yours, I tried Purito’s BPA Toner…. Mandelic Acid, Salicylic Acid and PHA at a good ph level… this really has helped me to address those issues with pores and general exfoliating. I use it about 3-4 times a week and my filaments have decreased over the past months, plus the Glow is back, without adding redness to my cheeks. Perhaps you can give it a try? X
