Moonshot Microfit (G-Dragon) Cushion Review

Anyone who follows me on IG will probably know I’ve been a Moonshot fan since they first launched a few years ago. They’ve steadily grown in visibility, and I still purchase and enjoy a lot of their products (their jelly pot eyeshadows are my favourite). When they recently had their first ever sale, with a shocking 50% off all products, I did a nice haul (featured in my IG story highlights if you’re interested @skinfullofseoul), and grabbed their Microfit Cushion as recommended by my friend @doniatheconsumer on IG. Let’s see how it’s worked out!

Purpose:

This is a base product, described on the Moonshot website as:

Ultra light Microfit Cushion express(es?) bright skin tone with anti-darkening formula, skin-fit effect, ultra light formula, layerable.

Honestly, the English on the Moonshot website is shocking. Korean companies continually try to sell internationally and yet continually refuse to pay translators to provide appropriate English for the products. It’s such a pet peeve of mine because it happens ALL the time, and I’ve even been asked on two occasions by companies to write descriptions for products…for free (um, no). There’s really no excuse.

Anywaaay, rant over, this is a cushion foundation/BB cream (it doesn’t really say which), and I expected a brightening, light formula with decent coverage. Did it live up to expectation?

Thank goodness someone took the time to put the full, proper, list on Cosdna here. From what I tell looking at the list on my box, the Cosdna translation and list seems accurate.

How to Use

According to Moonshot: “Use the innder (yes, it does say innder…) puff to gently apply from inner center of the face outwards.”

Packaging

The packaging is sleek and sophisticated. I really like the “Moonshot” text on the actual cushion, and the box is gorgeous.

The puff is very soft and has good grip. It’s a little thicker too which I like.

Application, Texture & Scent

As with any cushion, I press the puff into the cushion. When you first start new cushions do not press with too much pressure as you’ll end up with too much product. I pat lightly over my face, and I’ve been building layers with this cushion for more coverage.

The texture is light and creamy, and similar to many cushions. The scent is gorgeous but I’m really struggling on how to describe it, ummm..it smells like a cream…it’s not overwhelming and I really like it. Sorry that’s not much help!

Shade

I feel like a parrot saying this again, but as always with Korean base products, the shade range is horribly limited. There are only 3- 101, 201, & 301 from lightest to darkest. I have 101, which is fairly light.

Finish & Coverage

I was very pleasantly surprised by the finish and coverage. The coverage is really good for a cushion- it brightens and evens skintone, and also covered some blemishes I’ve had recently. It’s buildable which I like.

The finish is quite satiny and, honestly, gorgeous. It’s not overly dewy, nor matte. It leaves skin with a healthy glow, but without oiliness, or that ‘wet-look’ that a lot of cushions result in (personally I like the wet-look but I know a lot of western buyers definitely don’t!).

No makeup, only skincare and sunscreen.
Half face with cushion.
Full face cushion.
Full makeup.

Lasting Power

I’m really quite impressed with how well it’s performing in this category! There’s only some oiliness and loss of coverage over a testing period of 8 hours. See below:

Overall

I’m very happy with this purchase! The lasting power is great, and the finish is so pretty. It’s even quite comparable to my current favourite cushion, the Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion Ex. Considering the Sulwhasoo retails for 65,000KRW or $65, and this for 36,000KRW, I would perhaps even go as far as to call this a dupe (although it isn’t quite as beautiful in finish, nor as long lasting with coverage).

Ultimately, a great choice of cushion, and probably one of my favourites I’ve tried!

Availability & Price

The cushion is available in Korea in their stores in Myeongdong & Garosugil (FYI their Samcheongdong Flagship store is now permanently closed). It’s also available on Moonshot website. I bought the cushion (the “special pack” which includes a refill) for about 18,000KRW because it was a 50% off sale. This is definitely affordable. However even at the full price in Korea, 36,000KRW, I definitely think it’s worth it, considering you also get a refill in this price.

Internationally, I’ve found the cushion on Amazon, Sephora Australia , Yes Style , & Style Korean.

Would you like to try this cushion? What do you look for in a cushion?

    1. Thanks so much for reading! If you like cushions it’s definitely a good one for the collection in my opinion!

  1. Does the cushion have sunscreen already? How come you apply sunscreen. Under it? I have always read that you don’t mix physical sunscreens, if so

    1. Hi Kris! Thanks so much for reading. The cushion does have sunscreen, but makeup products can not usually contain the amount of sunscreen needed for full protection, so I always wear sunscreen under any makeup. With regards to layering sunscreens, there’s a LOT written on the subject, with a lot of different opinions it seems. Personally I apply sunscreen, allow it to fully absorb, then layer my makeup over the top! I also just avoid the sun on my face generally.
