Neogen Green Tea Gentle Gauze Peeling Pads UPDATE

Hi guys. So a month or so ago I reviewed the Neogen Green Tea Gauze Peeling Pads. I researched the pads pretty extensively, tested them around twice a week as suggested for a few weeks, and was left with the results I described in my first post. Whilst the results were what they were, there was something I didn’t actually know at the time about the product I was testing…

I had been given the new, updated version of the pads. These are called the Green Tea Gentle Gauze Peeling Pads, and they’re an upgrade. They are NOT currently being sold in the states or internationally (edit: a reader kindly let me know they are now being sold abroad on YesStyle). That means that everything I wrote in my first review still stands for those pads being sold in the states and everywhere outside of Korea. The ingredients list, the Soko Glam instructions & claim that tea tree leaf oil is a chemical exfoliant (which I cannot find any evidence to support, and personally don’t agree with), and my problems with how they’ve been marketed, is still how I feel.

However the product I tested actually has a different ingredients list, which is as follows:

Water, Camellia Sinensis Leaf (Green Tea) Water, Dipropylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol,  Camellia Sinensis Leaf (Green Tea) Extract, Gardenia Florida Fruit Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Hyaluronic Acid, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Artemisia Vulgaris Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Lactobionic Acid, Glyceryl Caprylate, Gluconolactone, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Extract, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Coptis Japonica Extract, Octyldodeceth-16, Butylene Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tromethamine, Carbomer, Disodium EDTA

Here’s the old list for comparison (the current internationally sold version):

Water, Dipropylene Glycol, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Glycerin, Alcohol Denat., PEG/PPG-17/6 Copolymer, Centella Asiatica Extract, Artemisia Vulgaris Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Coptis Japonica Extract, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Extract, Gardenia Florida Fruit Extract, Butylene Glycol, Benzophenone-5, Sodium Hyaluronate, Carbomer, Tromethamine, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance

From a simple glance the new list is preferable. The new list has no alcohol nor fragrance, and does in fact include PHA ingredients- lactobionic acid and gluconolactone. PHA is a very weak form of exfoliating acid. They have larger molecules than AHAs, so they tend to be gentler on skin and more suitable for dry/sensitive skin types than many AHA products. I’m so pleased they’ve finally actually included a chemical exfoliant, because it puts it in line with their lemon and wine pads. So that’s the main difference between those currently being sold internationally, and the ones I tested.

The new formula is also supposedly less sticky. I haven’t tried the original (the ones still being sold in the states and elsewhere) so I can’t comment on a difference. Personally the ones I tested didn’t feel like they needed washed off, and there was no stickiness whatsoever. Definitely a good thing! I don’t think I’d use them at all if I had to rinse.

So yeah that’s my update. The results were the same for me as I stated in the first review, of course. There was initial smoothing but nothing long lasting or life changing, I think because they’re so weakly acidic. They really did just work as a physical exfoliator for me. If I’m using weak acids I want to use them daily to see results, but the gauze was just too scratchy for daily use for my skin. However if you’re someone who loves weak acid products on occasional use, this may be for you.

There we have it! I’m sorry for the error, and Neogen apologized profusely to me too for not making it clear. They were really helpful and gave me all of the updated information. Are you interested in trying these new versions? Or are you a fan of the old version?

  1. Hi! Love your blog and I also really liked your original review of the original version of the pads. Just want to point out though that the new Neogen gentle pads are available on Yesstyle already. I’m based in Australia and we can buy it from there.

    1. Thank you so much for reading Linda! Ahh and thank you for letting me know about the availability of these new version pads, the last I was told these weren’t available outside of Korea. I’ll update this post now- appreciate the info thank you!! X

      1. Makes sense to me has to why the company tells to wash it off. You’re essentially leaving dead skin cells on your skin to reck havoc in your pores. So rinsing would eliminate that.
