Review: Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner

Okay, I admit it, I’ve become a bit of a toner addict. I don’t know how this happened (although I know why I love Korean toners), but it did, and my collection is now substantial. With the recent Seoul Blogger Brunch event, and the insane amount of swag we received, I added a few more to my ever growing toner family. One of those gifted was the famous Klairs Supple Face Preparation Toner that so many people have recommended to me. But did it live up to the hype?

Purpose

“The Supple Preparation Facial Toner is formulated with a base of various botanical extracts to balance the skin’s PH level and provide full nourishment to the skin. It contains various ingredients such as Lipidure and Beta-Glucan which provide deep hydration and help prepare the skin absorb following products better and boost their effectiveness.”

So, basically, its a hydrating toner.

Product Details & Ingredients

Full name: Dear, Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner

Amount: 180ml

Ingredients:

Water, Butylene Glycol, Dimethyl Sulfone, Betaine, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Natto Gum, Sodium Hyaluronate, Disodium EDTA, Centella Asiatica Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Polyquaternium-51, Chlorphenesin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Carbomer, Panthenol, Arginine, Luffa Cylindrica Fruit/Leaf/Stem Extract, Beta-Glucan, Althaea Rosea Flower Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Lysine HCL, Proline, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Acetyl Methionine, Theanine, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Copper Tripeptide-1

Most of the ingredients come up very safe on cosdna. I was pleased to see centella asiatica extract and aloe leaf extract, as these both soothe skin. Licorice root extract is also good to see- it was this ingredient that I believe first started brightening my skin when I began to use Missha time revolution essence back in 2014. Ah, nostalgia. Also lots of botanical ingredients. For those of you who avoid alcohol you’ll be pleased to see its absence here!

How to Use

As per the bottle: “Apply on a clean face. Gently pat all over your face using your palms. Pat remaining product into skin until fully absorbed”.

Personally, I always apply hydrating toners using my hands-I don’t want wastage on cotton pads, and I’m not using hydrating toners for cleansing/exfoliating purpose, so I don’t think a cotton pad is necessary. I’ve been applying this toner directly after cleansing every morning and evening.

Packaging

The bottle is a solid plastic, brown bottle. Although not glass, it still has an apothecary/medicinal vibe with the design, as many Klairs products do. I really like it!

The dispenser is a regular toner dispenser, and because of the slight weight of the liquid, allows the toner flow freely but reasonably slowly, which is ideal.

The packaging overall is simple but effective for the product.

Texture & Scent

I ADORE the scent. It’s herbal, but natural, and I can detect citrus and floral undertones. It’s gorgeous and I really enjoy it. It’s not overwhelming, and dissipates quickly upon absorption.

The texture is liquid, ever so slightly thicker than water. It holds more shape than water when I pour it into my hand. With slight slip, it spreads evenly and easily onto skin.

Performance

The toner is a really gentle yet satisfying first step product after cleansing or actives. Its the perfect thin texture for almost instant absorption, and whilst my skin feels hydrated, there’s absolutely no residue.

Immediately after application.
Less than a minute after patting into skin.

The calming effect is quite apparent for me. My skin becomes red extremely easily, and is always red after cleansing. The toner helps quickly calm it, and soothes skin.

The immediate results after absorption are light hydration, softening of skin, and my face is ready for the rest of my routine. I can see that with long-term use, this would definitely help maintain suppleness and hydration.

Overall

This toner is the perfect example of the products I live for, and the reason I became so obsessed with K-beauty- the hydrating layers. I truly believe it’s these types of products that have given me the healthy, happy skin I’m proud of today. The toner is a perfect addition to my hydrating routine, and suitable for all year round. My skin isn’t particularly sensitive, but I can see this being a nice calming option for those who do.

The toner comes in at about $20-$25 (I’ve seen it available on Wishtrend and Soko Glam for those abroad). In Korea, it’s available in A-Land stores. I think this is a fantastic price for such a high-quality product, and if you use it as directed (applying with hands), you won’t use it up quickly, even if using it twice a day as I have been.

I’m truly sold on this, and, rather boringly, it lived up to everyone’s rave reviews!
