Review: Thank You Farmer Back to Iceland Cleansing Water

Cleansing waters are still a raging trend in Korea. They’re a simple but superrrr useful product to own, and the Thank You Farmer version was a product I kept hearing great things about. So let’s get down and see how it worked out for me.

A little about Thank You Farmer

Thank You Farmer are a brand that have really taken the K-Beauty market by storm over the past year or so, and they are constantly popping up in my Instagram feed.

They focus on simplicity and gradually improving skin condition without ‘burdening’ skin. They openly do not ‘promise miracles and magic spells’, which is kind of refreshing! They admit that fancy ingredients and expensive products will not reverse skin damage. Instead they focus on using good quality products regularly to restore skin’s natural strength. I like the simple, natural approach.

What is this product?

So a cleansing water is exactly how it sounds…a water that can be used for entire face cleansing. People use cleansing waters for many different purposes: as a morning cleanser instead of face washing, as a first step cleanser to remove eye and base makeup, only to remove base makeup, as a corrector on a cotton bud to touch up makeup, to clean makeup tools…it’s a super flexible product to be used as and how you wish.

Personally, I like a cleansing water to remove makeup (bonus points if it can remove eye makeup well, without stinging my eyes), as a first step cleanser, or occasionally for a lazy morning cleanse.

How to use

Again, I guess it depends how you’re using it. For me, I simply pour some of the product onto a cotton pad, and gently wipe across my eyes and face to remove my makeup.

I’ve been using the water with Thank You Farmer perforated cotton pads, and damn, I’m sold on them. They’re dual sided and work really nicely with this cleansing water for makeup removal.

Ingredients and Product Info

Amount of product: 260ml

Time to use after opening: 12 months

Ingredients:

Cetraia Islandica Extract (83%), Glycerin, PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides, Dipropylene Glycol, Rubus Chamaemorus Seed Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Leaf Extract, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Leaf Extract, Maltodextrin, Papain, Gaultheria Procumbens (Wintergreen) Leaf Extract, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Extract, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Fruit Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, PPG-15 Stearyl Ether, Panthenol, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Polyglyceryl-3 Caprate, Cocoamidopropyl Betain, Allantoin, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Chloride, Water, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Ethylhexylglycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Fragrance

The product contains 83% Iceland Moss Extract instead of regular water; this water is supposed to be soothing and full of nutrients. There are also lots of moisturizing and anti-inflammatory ingredients.

There are fruit oil extracts as well as hydrogenated castor oil, that some people may be sensitive to.

Packaging

I ADORE the design of the bottle. It’s a moss green semi-transparent plastic bottle, with such a unique and eye catching design on the front.

The dispenser works well for the product, and the amount I usually use is easily dispensed without over spilling. It’s also easy to decant for travelling, which is something I care about.

Texture and Scent

I freakin love the scent too. It’s a super calming citrusy/herbal blend that I can’t get enough of.

The texture is, unsurprisingly, like water! It pours like water and looks like water. However once the cleansing water has absorbed, it doesn’t leave the dry feeling water does, instead leaving skin lightly hydrated and soft to touch.

Performance

Despite a cleansing water being a simple product, and despite the fact that I have very insensitive skin, I’ve actually had quite a bit of trouble finding cleansing waters that aren’t super harsh and drying (I’m looking at you Nooni Cleansing Water- my skin HATED that alcoholic reeking stuff).

And then I tried this product. And it’s awesome.

It removes base makeup very well, without stripping and drying out my skin. My skin actually feels lightly hydrated afterwards, as if I’ve used a toner. But here’s the best bit- I can use it to remove eye makeup too. So far, the cleansing waters I’ve used have stung horribly to remove makeup from my incredibly sensitive eyes, or just not removed eye makeup well. But not this. It has successfully been removing my semi waterproof mascara with no issues, and this really makes it stand apart for me. I’ve been using it as either solely an eye makeup remover, or generally as a first step cleanser.

It also works well for a lazy morning cleanse, or even a late night (okay, early morning hours after a wild night out) cleanse, but personally I really do prefer washing my face to cleansing waters.

Overall

Overall this is a super handy and effective product to have on my shelf. I’ve been reaching for it way more than previous cleansing waters, because of its ability to effectively remove my eye makeup too. With more frequent gyming (I mean from literally no exercise to now going 4x a week), I’m also finding it useful as a pre-gym cleanser for the days I go after work. I don’t like exercising with makeup streaking down my face, so I remove it before hand with this cleanser, then fully cleanse my face in the shower afterwards with my regular cleanser. It definitely holds a valuable place, and with the wonderful scent and additional hydrating and calming effects, it’ll definitely be a product I keep using!
