Seasonal Skincare: Winter Changes

Hey my loves! So recently I’ve struggled a little with knowing which direction to go with posts and what you guys like reading and seeing, but after a discussion on my IG I’ve taken some of your ideas on board. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me! I’ll continue doing the in-depth reviews that you guys said you found really helpful, but also adding posts that share tips as well as lists of favourite products. So first up is a short post on the changes I make to my routine as the seasons change and the weather becomes colder. If you want some specific product ideas, here’s my winter products post from last year. I’ll update soon with more additions this year! But first let’s talk about the changes I make.

*A lot of the products mentioned here were gifted to me by companies at some point in time.

Gentle Cleansing

This is important- the “stripped skin” feeling isn’t great at any time of year, but worst of all in winter when your skin is already likely drier than usual. I use super gentle options for cleansing, and actually have a post dedicated to cleansers in the works for next week because I’ve recently found some gems (hint: most of my new faves are gel cleansers).

LAYERS

Much like clothing, I add more layers. I mist between each layer of skincare and right now I’m reaching for Lagom Cellus Mist Toner or D’Alba First Spray Serum. I also incorporate more moisturizing watery layers like Bonair Premier Aloe Squeeze Toner, Klairs Supple Preparation Toner or Dr Jart Ceramidin Liquid.

Oil

I’ve become a bit of an oil fanatic over the past year or so. I find that adding a few drops of oil to my cream, or a whole layer of an oil serum like the Dewy Bae Raw Glow, adds something to my skin overnight that nothing else seems to. It adds moisture and (cliche I know) glow! Even if you have oily skin, I would suggest trying just a couple of drops massaged into skin before you go to sleep. Other favourites include Olivarrier Fluid Squalane Oil and The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil.

Lip Care

Anyone who follows me knows I really struggle with dry lips, and in winter this is a ‘mare. I spend a lot of time on lip care. I generally always turn to the same products and they are my no.1, my Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, no.2 Nuxe Reve De Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm, and no.3 lip masks (usually the Kocostar variety). I do a mini lip routine every night, and often gently exfoliate them with a damp facecloth when cleansing too.

Sleeping Mask

I find sleeping masks ensure my skin doesn’t lose moisture overnight. They seem to seal everything in, and also add additional moisture. My current favourites are Cosrx Honey Overnight Mask and also Commleaf Rose Sleeping Mask. Both are rich but not too heavy, and do absorb to some extent through the night. I use a generous amount but even if you just do a thin layer, I think they help.

Any tips to share? These are changes I’ve made over the years and have found a real difference with them. Would love to hear anything additional you guys do!
