Cosrx Balancium Comfort Ceramide Cream Review

Cosrx are really coming at us with the new products in 2018! And this is one I was particularly excited about. For a long while, I struggled to be enthusiastic about creams. After all, if it moisturizes, it moisturizes, right? However after lots of changes in my skin over the past 6 months or so, including a lot more dryness, I’ve found myself becoming increasingly “into” creams. How did this one work out? Let’s see.

Purpose & How To

So the description Cosrx give us is bullet pointed as thus:

  • A lightweight facial moisturizer that soothes irritated skin while protecting skin barrier
  • Formulated with 10,000 ppm of Ceramide NP, 50% of Centella Asiatica Leaf Water, and 500 ppm of Centella Asiatica Medical Grade Extract
  • EWG Verified (Safe Level), no artificial ingredients, hypoallergenic, and cruelty-free
  • Good for dry, combination, and sensitive skin. Provides soothing, healing, moisturizing, and protective benefits.

I expected a very soothing, moisturizing cream to help my dry patches and redness.

The how-to is rather simple: “apply evenly to face”. I apply after my essences and serums as my moisturizer step.

Product Details & Ingredients

Full name: Cosrx Balancium Comfort Ceramide Cream

Amount: 80g

Ingredients:

Centella Asiatica Leaf Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetearyl Alcohol, Betaine, 1,2-Hexanediol, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Ceramide NP, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Sucrose Distearate, Glyceryl Stearate, Dipropylene Glycol,Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil, Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Kernel Oil, BeesWax, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Panthenol, Niacinamide, Sodium Hyaluronate, Xanthan Gum, Asiaticoside, Asiatic acid, Madecassic acid, Cassia Obtusifolia Seed Extract, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil

This looks like a great list for my skin type. Lots of fantastic moisturizing ingredients and my skin likes centella asiatica. However, do be aware that when a product says the ingredients are EWG safe, it definitely does not mean they agree with your skin and are immediately fantastic and “safe”…I’m wary of how brands use this term for marketing purposes. Check out this Racked piece from 2016. I always get questions from readers and followers about “natural” “safe” products, but those words actually mean very little when brands use them. I’m off on a tangent here, but you see what I mean!

Packaging

TUBE PACKAGING IS THE BEST. I hate tubs, and the majority of creams are in tubs, so yeah this is a huge win. I also adore the pale pink and white!

Texture & Scent

The texture is one of my favourite aspects of this cream. It’s a beautiful, fairly thick cream with a velvety feel and makes skin feel immediately soft. It doesn’t leave any residue at all- it actually sinks into skin incredibly quickly, and is not greasy. It’s not the smoothest for spreading, because of the thickness, so I use more than I would have thought to cover my whole face.

The scent is citrus-herbal. I like it. I see a lot of Korean companies are using citrus oils for fragrance these days, and this is one of them. I don’t mind it but I know some people have sensitivities.

Overall Performance

This stuff is great. It seriously, seriously helps my skin barrier and soothes my skin.

I have normal-combination skin, with more dryness these days. For my skin, the product is working extremely well both day and night, which surprised me. It dries down to a silky, satiny finish- not shiny. Because of the thick texture, I expected it to leave much more shine after application (for thicker creams at night I’m totally fine with that shine). But it sinks right into skin and leaves skin soft and nourished. So I’ve been using a little in the morning, and it sits absolutely fine under sunscreen and makeup. In the evenings I’ve been using a thicker layer, and sometimes mixing it with a drop or two of oil for that extra moisture. I’m really happy that it can be used both times of the day!

I keep going through phases where I over-exfoliate my nose and end up with mild peeling. I’ve used this cream twice overnight when that’s happened, and a thick layer has repaired the skin and soothed the area both times. I’m not saying it’s a miracle product, because I don’t think I’d say that about any product, but for that purpose in particular it’s been awesome.

If I had anything negative to say, it would be that I feel I have to use quite a lot to cover my face well. A little doesn’t go a long way. It’s not a huge problem, because it does a good job, but something to bear in mind.

Price & Availability

This is an Amazon exclusive, which is really sad for those of us not in the US. The product only launched in July, so I hope it will filter through to international markets soon.

Right now it’s $26 which I think is a totally decent price!

Any thoughts on this cream? Have you tried it?!

  2. When would you suggest someone use this cream? Should it be a part of your daytime routine or nighttime routine? Does it apply well under makeup or should it just be used at night so it can settle into the skin?

    1. It’s totally up to you but personally I find it fine for both day and night. If you read the section Overall Performance I go into a bit of detail as to how I find it when applied day and night 🙂
