Review: Heroine Long and Curl Mascara

When I was in Japan back in February, I did a criminal amount of shopping. Something I was desperate to pick up was Japanese mascara. I’ve always read such great things about Heroine, and was keen to see if it was all hype, or actually a great brand. I went for the Long and Curl Super Waterproof Black Mascara in the end.

Packaging and Wand

The tube is a pretty deep purple metallic colour, with a feminine silver font. It’s not fancy but it’s attractive enough.

The wand shape on the other hand is pretty damn great- it’s slightly curved, with short bristles. It’s fairly small which means it’s easy to target every single lash, to get the length extention they promise. I generally prefer smaller wand heads these days to achieve that very wide eyed, every lash covered, look.

Texture and formula

The formula is a liiittle clumpy, (I tend to find most waterproof mascaras are) but avoiding clumpy lashes is totally doable because of the wand. I’ve been zigzagging the wand from the root of my lash right to the end and find it works the clumps out and covers every millimetre.

It also contains small 5mm microfibres, which is something I love for added volume and length. Some people find them irritating but I think they’re a fantastic way to build your natural lashes without having to use extentions or falses lashes, and it gives a really natural feathered look.

Performance

This is where the mascara is a winner for me…it is soo waterproof (also makes it a pain to take off but who cares if it stays put during 80% humidity) and really lengthens my lashes. It makes my lashes look so full and long, and that look is easily maintained all day. The mascara also claims to lock eyelash curl all day- this is not something I can really comment on, as I don’t curl my lashes to begin with. But they did stay lovely and lifted all day without flaking or smudging.

Price

The price is a little more than I’d like to pay…it comes to around 18,000 Korean Won, although annoyingly I can’t for the life of me remember what I paid in Japan. Realistically in England I’d easily pay that (18,000 won = roughly £10) for mascara without thinking, but I’m too used to cheap korean cosmetics! It’s certainly not a bad price for such a high performing product, and I won’t hesitate to buy it again during the summer months.

Final thoughts

I’m going to make a bold statement and say its one of the best mascaras I’ve ever used…it just makes my lashes look so long and full, and the long lasting effect is unbeatable IMO. They stay perfect for the entire day in high heat and humidity. Its easy to apply, although you have to be careful to avoid clumping, and I love the wand shape. Definitely going to be a repurchase. Have you tried this mascara? Whats your HG?
